UAE company research checklist
A source-first sequence for checking identity, reporting scope, business evidence, events and unresolved gaps.Lock the security identity first
Begin with the listed instrument, not the familiar brand. Record the exchange, ticker, stable security identifier, issuer legal name, instrument class and identity-check date. Confirm that the source route belongs to the relevant exchange or issuer and that the security is not being confused with a parent, subsidiary, private operating company or similarly named share class. Corporate actions can change a ticker or legal form, so preserve aliases and effective dates rather than rewriting history. An identity-only profile is a valid starting point when deeper material is unavailable; it tells the reader exactly what has and has not been established. Check listing lifecycle, current route and sector assignment separately. A market directory can support the identity but does not prove the company’s business description, financial position or investment quality. If two records disagree about the instrument, stop and mark the conflict. Every later document, event, fact and research note must attach to the same stable identity. This first step prevents a polished analysis from being built on the wrong company or security.
Build the document and period map
Next, identify the latest eligible reporting documents and map their exact roles. Annual audited statements, reviewed interim statements, preliminary results, investor presentations, governance reports and exchange disclosures are not interchangeable. Record title, period start and end, publication date, assurance status, language, source URL, stored version or hash when eligible, and exact locator. Separate quarter-only, year-to-date, full-year and point-in-time columns. Confirm currency, unit, consolidated or standalone scope and whether comparatives were restated. A later presentation does not automatically supersede statutory statements, and a current news release does not make an older financial period current. List missing documents explicitly. If a source is private, rights-blocked, stale or ambiguous, keep that state rather than substituting a third-party summary. The output of this step is a dated evidence map: what documents exist, which period each covers, what assurance they carry and which gaps prevent a complete view. It is not yet a conclusion about the business.
Describe the business with sector-aware evidence
Use primary issuer or regulatory material to identify the legal operating perimeter, major activities and segment structure. Keep reported facts, management descriptions and analyst interpretation separate. Then choose the sector lens that matches the economics. Banks require questions about asset quality, capital, funding and margins; developers need presales, backlog, handovers and recurring assets; utilities require capacity, tariffs and concessions; transport needs throughput, fleet or utilisation; a REIT needs property and distribution definitions. A generic metric template can hide the risks that matter. Before using a sector metric, capture its issuer definition, period, unit, scope and reconciliation to statutory information when available. Do not infer a missing operating KPI from a narrative phrase or a neighbouring company. Map ownership, governance, material subsidiaries and related-party boundaries without collapsing separate legal entities. The reader should be able to distinguish what the issuer reports, what Dubaist calculates and what remains an analytical question. A useful profile can explain the business model and evidence gaps without publishing a single unsupported financial number.
Trace facts, events and changes
For every material fact, retain the document, page or locator, period, currency, unit, consolidation scope, evidence class and verification date. Calculated values need a formula and all source inputs. Normalized values need an adjustment trail back to a reported anchor. Missing stays unknown, stale triggers revalidation and conflict blocks a single answer. Then construct the event chronology: results, dividends, meetings, corporate actions, contracts, management changes, auditor changes, corrections and restatements each require an exact subject relationship and date. A notice is not the same as a completed event, and a proposed distribution is not the same as an approved or paid one. Link news and events to the security only when the relationship is reviewed. Check whether a later disclosure changes an earlier claim and preserve the relation rather than deleting history. This step should reveal what changed, which evidence remains current and what requires follow-up. It must not convert an event into a causal claim or investment signal without additional proof.
Finish with rights, freshness and decision gates
Before publication, review source rights for the exact operation: manual link, quotation, extraction, storage, transformation, automation and commercial display are separate questions. Confirm that every public claim has an eligible source and that private correspondence, personal data, credentials, paid third-party material and restricted files are excluded. Assign a freshness state based on the reporting sequence and identity check, not merely the page update date. Test EN, RU and AR independently, including Arabic direction, canonical links, hreflang, internal navigation and visible missing or conflict states. The Borouge example on this guide is deliberately identity-only: Dubaist identifies Borouge on ADX under ticker BOROUGE and uses the profile as a place to apply the checklist without reproducing financial values. The checklist produces an evidence status and a list of next actions, not a score, rank or recommendation. Any directional investment decision remains outside this public workflow and requires current eligible data, an approved methodology and explicit Editorial review. Publication is complete only when another reader can reproduce the evidence path and understand its limits.
Identity-only issuer example
Borouge as a checklist starting point
Dubaist identifies Borouge as ADX ticker BOROUGE. The example provides a stable identity from which to apply the research checklist; it reproduces no financial value, score, rank or investment conclusion.
